technical difficulties

as part of my ongoing procrastination efforts in job hunting and preparing for an evening with Mr. Hyphen and the Purple Onion tomorrow, i’ve decided to devote the better part of my late morning/early afternoon towards attempting to address some of the issues raised by a reader (the only one, i imagine, other than dansam) regarding the Jealous Gods blog.

in a helpful email, entitled “you suck (and so does dan, but less so)”, i received the following feedback:

1. you do not allow ppl to comment on your stupid new blog without signing in. I WILL NOT SIGN IN AND I WILL NOT READ A BLOG WHERE I CAN’T FREELY COMMENT ANONYMOUSLY ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU SUCK.
2. you are using wordpress, which sucks. it sucks so bad that i had to remove the apature live blog from it and take it back to my beloved typepad. the fact that you freely chose wordpress is definitive proof of your suckage.
3. your poasts (like toasts) are all over the place, and not in chronological order. WTF?
4. why didn’t you try “samdan” or “sandam” or “damsan” all of which would have been better than “dansam” in the first place? because you suck, that’s why! further suckity: your name sounds like a bad prog-rock side-project featuring the … er … LESS talented members of Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, and Genesis.
5. your design sucks, and needs images to take the reader’s mind off how much it sucks.  yet it has no such images.
6. i now have to update my feed aggregator, you whore.

the email concludes with “you so sucky.”

below are my responses, including the steps i’ve taken to resolve some of the issues raised:

1. settings have been changed so that anyone can now comment on the suckery that is Jealous Gods without signing in.

2. wordpress is free; typepad is not. howsumevah, i am attempting to find ways to underwrite the Jealous Gods project, because it’s totally Worthy of being underwrit.

3. this issue is driving me crazy and i have not been able to figure out why the posts are not being displayed in reverse chronological order; i wonder if it has something to do with the fact that dan and i are posting in different time zones that are over a day apart, but i’m not sure why that would still affect the posts from appearing in chronological order. until i figure this out, the home page is static with the basic about us page, and people can just link to posts on the right-hand column. still, annoying. wtf, indeed.

4. no response; you got me there.

5. i added a banner image as a placeholder; it is, admittedly, still kinda sucky and really angsty-moody.

6. deal with it, ‘ho.

okay. now that i’ve taken care of this, i can get to work on preparing for weekend stuffs.

when do you get back to nyc, dan?
